Chingaza

It all starts with Auxi's idea to make a trip to Chingaza. She made all the preparations and the day finally came. We left Friday 23th of April at 6:30 in the morning. The road trip lasted three hours and it was really fun. We listened to music and played games. When we arrived the guides gave us a talk about the barren's importance. Right after that the hike started.  The first part was through the woods and we were going up to the oriel. The sights were absolutely stunning. We could see de lagoon and the beautiful vegetation. Going down was the hardest part of all because it was really muddy. When we finally got to the main road, we walked all over to the main camp again and we had lunch. It was actually a little messy because everyone thought that we weren't going to walk anymore so everybody changed clothes to the ones dry and comfy that we had brought and it turned out that we were actually going to the river as a last walk before returning back to school. As before it was really complicated to walk through that muddy field but it was really funny to see all de people falling and laughing, it was awesome. The buses picked us up there by the river and we started our journey. It was really quiet because everyone was so tired so we fell asleep. The traffic was really heavy in the Via La Calera, it took us a long time to get to the school.

Our Opinion
For us, participating in the Film Festival this year was a really great experience, despite the various drawbacks presented, we thoroughly enjoyed every moment in the preparation of the film and in its editing and presentation and we also learned a lot about the topic we work on.

Undoubtedly, we would like to have the opportunity to re-participate in this type of activities as much as possible.

CHINGAZA

Chingaza

On Friday 21st of April, forty two students of the Reyes Católicos School went to Chingaza National Natural Park. We all met at the school at a quarter past six in the morning and left to Chingaza in two buses, we spent two hours until we arrived to a hut.

There, the guides made us a presentation about the park´s flora and fauna. When they finished, we took the buses again for one more hour and finally arrived to Chingaza.

It was drizzling but we started our hike. A few minutes later, we saw a stag with big horns. The footpath was muddy and some people slid. We arrived to a viewpoint where we saw a lake and the scenery was very nice from up there.

Then we returned to the cabin to have lunch and after we walked to the edge of the lake but it started raining so we couldn’t stay much longer. The buses came to pick us up and we went back to the school.

The trip was amazing, we had fun visiting the moor, though it was cold and we were a bit muddy, it was a great experience.

5. Storyboard

            6. Sierra Nevada Natural Park

The Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta is an isolated mountain range separated from the Andes chain that runs through Colombia. Reaching an altitude of 5,700 m (18,700 ft.) just 42 km (26 mi) from the Caribbean coast, the Sierra Nevada is one of the world's highest coastal ranges, being a few hundred feet shorter than the Saint Elias Mountains in Canada. The Sierra Nevada encompasses about 17,000 km2 (6,600 sq. mi) and serves as the source of 36 rivers. The range is in the Departments of Magdalena, Cesar and La Guajira.
The highest point of the Sierra Nevada group (and Colombia in general) may be either Pico Cristóbal Colón or Pico Simón Bolívar both in the municipalities of Santa Marta and Aracataca; it has yet to be determined which is higher. SRTM data and local topographic maps show that their true elevations are approximately 5,700 m (18,700 ft.), lower than the 5,775 m (18,947 ft.) elevation that is often quoted.
The Sierra Nevada is a compact group, relatively small in area, and surrounded by lands with elevations below 200 m (660 ft.). Although it is associated with the Tropical Andes, the main backbone of the Andes cannot be reached from the Sierra Nevada without dropping below this level. This makes its highest point the world's fifth most prominent summit.
Several peaks in the Sierra Nevada are intervisible with Cerro Paramillo, a 3,730 m (12,240 ft.) peak in Antioquia Department. This implies a theoretical direct line of sight of just over 500 km (310 mi), reported to be the longest between any two points on the surface of the Earth.

7. Opinion

We think this kind of activities are awesome for our learning process and teach us how is to work in a group, although we are friends, we had some little problems in the organization and in the labors of each one.
We congratulate the English Department for the effort that has done for this activity, that is totally different to be writing in our notebooks, but we suggest that more professionals, like directors or animators can help us for do high-level movies,

First ideas:
At the beginning we thought that it would be a great idea to base the film in the discrimination of women in the laboral aspects, but later we changed our minds and realized that it was a very predictable theme for the story, so we changed it for the struggles of the art industry that in our times doesn’t have the support that should have for being a supposedly easy career.

Project by:
Directors: Catalina Olaya and Sofia Rubiano.
Technical aspects: Catalina Olaya, Alexandra Torres, Hugo Velasco, Eddy Peña and Juana Ramírez.

Actors: Juana Catalina Ramírez as Valery, Sofia Rubiano Mora as Mother and Eddy Santiago Peña as Brother.

Opinion of the group:
In our opinion, the development of the project was really good and we had a lot of fun working on it. There were some technical difficulties, but in the end everything worked out just fine. It was an amazing experience and we think it would be a great to repeat it sometime.

For what concerns the things that should improve for next year, we thing it was very organized and full of interesting works and people to learn from.

Chingaza Natural Park

The Chingaza Natural Park is located in Colombia, one of the most diverse countries in the world. It is known for its great variety of vegetation and animals such as deer and spectacled bears, among others. Today, it is a refuge of fauna and flora in the center of the country. Among its ecosystems are the moorland, high Andean  and subandean forests.

On Friday, April 21 of this year, we left school about six-thirty in the morning. After three long hours of travel, we made a stop so that the instructors of the park could explain a little more about the park and everything that implied the route that we were about to do.

Another hour's journey later, we finally reached our destination. The terrain was in a moorland ecosystem, which meant a rainy morning and a very humid terrain. This made our walking tour complicated, as it was difficult to climb in such conditions. It was all very steep.

But it was worth it. In the middle of the tour we stop at a viewpoint overlooking the reservoir, which is located in that part of the park. That was the most shocking part, actually.

On the other hand, we immediately approached the reservoir and, from there, we returned to the starting point for lunch.

The lunch lasted about forty-five minutes and then we came back, but this time, much closer to the reservoir than we were before. This route was less rugged, but it had much more mud than the previous one. In the end, we could see the beautiful landscape that was there.

Finally, when we returned to Bogota in about the same period of time as before, and this time, we could appreciate the beauty of the mountains and the clouds from an impressive height that left us speechless.

To sum up, it is an amazing experience that everyone should have at least once in their lifetime.
